Our story
Filipino and American. Family first.
Phil-Am was founded in Houston by Ryan and Rochelle Peters. The name is who we are, and the tagline, People Over Dollars, is how every agent here is expected to work.
How it started
Phil-Am started from a strong desire to help families and individuals have security and coverage without the confusion. Rochelle is a native of the Philippines, a country with no Medicare program, poor coverage and a lack of care that she saw hold back families and whole communities. She knew what it looked like when people had no safety net, and she wanted to build one.
Ryan worked for several insurance carriers in nearly every part of the business before running Phil-Am. Seeing the inner workings of the carrier side has shaped how the agency operates: it lets Ryan and Rochelle partner with carriers and physicians from a position of knowledge, and make sure members end up with the best coverage actually available to them, not the easiest one to sell.
Ryan and Rochelle have eight children and live in the suburbs of Houston. The agency now serves clients in 39 states, but the standard is the same as it was on day one: people over dollars.
What the logo means
The dark blue and light blue are Phil-Am and Insurance. The sun is from the Philippine flag. The two reds are the red of the Philippine flag and the red of the American flag, side by side. It is a family crest as much as a logo.
How we work
- Independent. We represent many carriers and compare across them.
- Free to you. Carriers pay us; your premium is the same either way.
- Yearly reviews. Plans change, so we check yours every fall.
- Three languages. English, Spanish and Tagalog, on staff.
